Mental Health problems are common and may affect 1 in 4 of us during our lifetime. They can be very devastating as not only are you coping with the mental health problem itself, but it may impact on many other aspects of your life. We have listed below a number or local and national services that may be helpful to you.

Useful Websites

www.livinglifetothefull.com – A free self help programme for anxiety and depression which is audio visual. It is founded by NHS psychologist and author Dr Chris Williams. Users can follow the programme at their own pace and select the appropriate modules.  There are also handouts to print out and task to complete.

www.fiveareas.com – Connected to the above website. It has anxiety control downloads, handouts and books available to order.

www.dgsmind.co.uk – For details of the local MIND projects and groups

www.hiddenhurt.co.uk – For victims of abuse and domestic violence it provides a helpline and a comprehensive list of useful supportive organisations.

www.getconnected.org.uk – Free telephone and email helpline for young people that can help put them in touch with the support they need.

www.thegrand.org.uk – Based in Gravesend. Counselling, a sexual health drop in and support for young people. They also run a silver surfers internet club to train the over 50’s in using the web.

www.ocdaction.org.uk – They provide information on the different types of OCD, support groups and will send information packs and also have a helpline.

www.cccs.co.uk – Provide free counselling on debt management and budgeting. Will act on behalf of the client and are backed by the government. They provide telephone counselling and their number in free phone.

www.carerskent.org – They provide short breaks, support groups and counselling. They often have events such as pamper days where local massage and aroma therapists etc attend (details in their newsletter).

www.b-eat.co.uk – They offer advice for eating disorders.

Anorexia Nervosa – A survival guide for Families, Friends and Sufferer by Janet Treasure. Available on Amazon.

Young Minds – Charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.

Porchlight – Is the pressure of day-to-day life affecting your mental health? Are you struggling to manage your money or your relationships?

Porchlight’s community link team can help connect you with support for these issues – and more – in the local area. They will also give you one-to-one advice and guidance.

This is a completely free service for anyone aged 17 or over.
