Measles Information

Dated: 13-Jun-13

Due to the recent measles outbreak, we are offering a catch up program for those that have not had the MMR vaccine. If you were born before 1970, it is likely you would have caught measles, mumps and rubella as a child, so do not require a vaccine. Anyone else who has not had two doses of the MMR vaccine, is welcome to attend the surgery to receive catch up doses of the vaccine.

There was a scare in the 1990s, from some research which suggested a link between the MMR vaccine and autism. This research has since been discredited. There is NO link between the MMR vaccine and autism. But, due to this research, many of our 10-16 year olds, did not receive the MMR vaccine when they were infants. For this reason we are actively searching for 10-16 year olds who have not received both doses of the MMR, and inviting them to the surgery to catch up and gain protection from contracting measles, mumps and rubella.

If you are unsure of your vaccination history, please phone the practice and we can assist you.
